In celebration of Public Health in North Carolina, Governor Beverly Perdue has proclaimed April 2010 as Public Health Month. Gov. Perdue signed the proclamation on March 2, 2010.
The proclamation honors Public Health for 130 years of service to the state. It also honors the work done by Public Health to prevent the spread of the H1N1 virus, 23 percent decline in age-adjusted heart disease since 2000, a 32 percent decline in age-adjusted stroke deaths since 2000, and a 23 percent decline in the teen pregnancy rate since 2000.
