Due to a manufacture’s shortage of Tubersol, the NC Tuberculosis Program recommends local health departments prioritize tuberculin skin testing to include only those persons who, according to the state guidelines, are considered highest public health risk
Therefore, the Lincoln County Health Department will be unable to provide routine tuberculin skin testing until further notice. The TB Program recommends deferring routine testing until the shortage is resolved, which is likely to be several months. The health department will notify the public when skin testing can resume.
For those who cannot defer testing, the Lincoln County Health Department will offer an alternative blood test. This test is considerably more expensive than skin testing, but is appropriate for screening purposes. Please contact the health department at 704-735-3001 for availability, pricing, and clinic times.
