[ARCHIVED] New Rules and Fees for Solid Waste Disposal

Beginning July 1, 2014, there will be new rules and fees for disposing of Solid Waste in Lincoln County. These changes are necessary for continued cost effective Landfill operation and future cell expansions.

Private haulers will now be charged a tipping fee effective July 1, 2014. A survey of surrounding counties found private haulers are typically charged Solid Waste Tipping Fees in other Counties.

Some citizens bring their waste and recyclables to convenience sites and other citizens may contract with private haulers to take their waste to the Lincoln County Landfill. Citizens who wish to bring their trash to convenience centers or the landfill will not be charged for dumping their residential Municipal Solid Waste. Lincoln County citizens of pay an annual “Landfill Availability Fee” to support landfill operations and ensure that there are facilities to dispose of County generated waste.

Construction and Demolition (C&D) Waste will not be accepted at Lincoln County Convenience Sites. Beginning July 1, 2014, C&D disposal boxes will no longer be located at the convenience sites. The County began accepting C&D waste at the convenience sites in 2008 to assist homeowners in disposing of small amounts of construction debris from their homes. Over the past years the County has seen the amounts of debris being brought to the convenience sites increase. Starting July 1, 2014 residents with minor “wheelbarrow sized loads” can dispose of C&D waste in the Bulk Waste Containers at convenience sites on a limited basis. Larger amounts of C&D waste will be accepted at the Landfill and tipping fees will apply.

The fee for tipping municipal solid waste will increase from $32 per ton to $ 38 per ton. The fee for tipping C&D waste will increase from $20 per ton to $ 30 per ton. A survey of neighboring Counties found that our tipping fees were somewhat less, and this fee increase will bring our fees in line.
