[ARCHIVED] Lincoln County Health Department Open House - April 2009

It’s present everywhere, everyday and in everybody’s life. Many residents of Lincoln County are not even aware of this silent force in their lives.

Public health affects us all, ensuring that food served in our restaurants is safe to eat, keeping our water clean, making sure our children are vaccinated against dangerous diseases, and generally contributing to the quality of life in our county.

The Lincoln County Health Department wants you to know about these and other public health benefits, so they are celebrating North Carolina Public Health Month in April. This year’s Public Health Month theme is “Building the Foundation for a Healthy America.” This theme focuses on our fight against existing health inequalities, and the need to improve the nation’s public health system.

The Lincoln County Health Department will be celebrating Public Health Month with a variety of activities. On April 8, 2009, residents are encouraged to participate in the American Heart Association’s National Start! Walking Day. Everyone can come by the Health Department from 8am to 5pm and receive a free pedometer and Lincoln County walking guide from 8am to 5pm, while supplies last. On April 24, 2009 from 1pm to 4pm, everyone is welcome to come see what the health department does for you and take advantage of discounted cholesterol and blood glucose testing.

Lincoln County Health Department staff has been working with and serving the public health needs of Lincoln County residents since 1941, providing clinical and environmental health services, as well as health education programs that are critical to the well-being of the community. To schedule a formal presentation about public health for your school, business, civic or social group, call Kelly Bragg at 704-736-2023 or Abby Newton at 704-736-8624
.
County residents are also encouraged to attend regular meetings of the Lincoln County Board of Health to learn more about public health policy in Lincoln County. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Health is May 5, 2009 at the Health Department, located at 151 Sigmon Road in Lincolnton.

For more information about how public health is working for you, please call Kelly Bragg at 704-736-2023 or Abby Newton at 704-736-8624
