The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) plans to improve traffic operations and vehicular safety for the intersection of the NC 16 Business / N. Pilot Knob Road (SR 1393) in eastern Lincoln County. 

Due to historically high crash rates in the project area, NCDOT Division 12 is recommending reconfiguring the intersection of NC 16 Business / N. Pilot Knob Road (SR 1394) / Hagers Ferry Road (SR 1391). Between 2008 and 2013, 57 accidents occurred as a result of the geometry of the intersection. The proposed improvements will result in safer traffic operations. 

The proposed improvements shall consist of realigning a portion of N. Pilot Knob Road and creating a new signalized intersection with NC 16 Business approximately 430 feet north of the existing intersection of NC 16 Business and Hagers Ferry Road. The portion of Hagers Ferry Road between N. Pilot Knob Road and NC 16 Business will be removed. Right turn lanes will be added on NC 16 Business at the new intersection with N. Pilot Knob Road and on Hagers Ferry Road at the intersection with N. Pilot Knob Road. 

A public meeting will be held at the East Lincoln Community Center, 8160 Optimist Club Road, Denver, NC 28037 on March 16, 2017 between the hours of 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. This will be an informal meeting with preliminary plans available for review. There will not be a formal presentation. Staff members from NCDOT and their Consultant will be available to discuss the project and answer questions. Citizens are encouraged to attend at their convenience.

The current Project schedule: 

Begin Right of Way Acquisition in April 2017 
Begin Construction in March 2019 
Open to Traffic in March 2020
